Setup is easy, the parent DiskStation recognised the DX517 as soon as it was powered on. I was particularly pleased to find that I was able to transfer a 4 drive RAID5 array from my old DS413 into the DX517, turn everything back on and have the array and all the shared folders remount on the new hardware, without having to do anything. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend doing this without having a full backup, but it certainly beat having to recreate the array and restore ~10TB of data.
Nicely, the DX517 can be configured to hibernate (disks and fans off) when the array volumes are not being used. In my setup the DS218+ runs surveillance station so is always churning, but the main filestore volume on the DX517 is not accessed 24/7, so I expect this will save those drives quite a few hours.
Clearly, as this expansion box is about as expensive as a mid-range Synology NAS, a lot of people are probably better off buying an entire new NAS. But it definitely has a use in some situations.
Apres un stockage sur le cloud doit revenir moins cher et est plus sécurisé. je sais pas , mais j'aime les produit synology
